James Gunn has officially locked in another major casting choice for DC Studios’ upcoming Man of Tomorrow, the highly anticipated follow-up to Superman. It could hint at a much bigger, more cosmic direction for the franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter says that after multiple rounds of screen testing, Adria Arjona (Andor) has secured a mystery role in the film. While early buzz suggested she may be playing the powerful DC Comics figure Maxima, the studio has yet to confirm any details about the character, and some believe it could be for another major role—Wonder Woman or Lana Lang.

Arjona emerged from a shortlist of contenders that included Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten.

The sequel will see David Corenswet return as Superman, along with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor and the iconic villain Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger. The film also brings back the Superman supporting cast, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, with Aaron Pierre is set to reprise his role as Green Lantern John Stewart.

If Arjona is indeed stepping into the role of Maxima, fans can likely expect a storyline that leans heavily into intergalactic stakes. In the comics, Maxima is an alien queen whose complicated relationship with Superman has seen her shift between adversary and romantic interest.

But there’s also Wonder Woman or Lana Lang…

Man of Tomorrow is scheduled for a July 9, 2027 release.
