Marvel Studios’ long-awaited X-Men movie appears to have found one of its first major mutant cast members.

According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Samara Weaving is reportedly Marvel Studios’ choice to portray Emma Frost in the upcoming X-Men film. The report states that director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige met with and auditioned several actresses before ultimately settling on Weaving for the role earlier this week.

Marvel Studios has not officially commented on their report, although this is a trustworthy source.

If the casting moves forward, Weaving would become the latest actress to bring Emma Frost to the big screen. The character previously appeared in Fox’s X-Men franchise, with January Jones portraying her in X-Men: First Class.

Emma Frost is one of the most recognizable mutants in Marvel Comics. Originally introduced as a villain in the 1980s, Emma has undergone a major evolution over the years, eventually becoming one of the X-Men’s most important allies and a powerful telepath in her own right. Her complicated history and shifting relationship with the team could give Marvel Studios plenty of material to explore.

The potential casting comes as Marvel Studios continues putting together its new generation of X-Men.

Deadline reported that the studio and Schreier have been actively meeting with and auditioning performers for multiple roles, with Emma Frost reportedly being one of the most extensively searched-for parts. The final group of actresses auditioning for the role reportedly tested shortly after July 4, with Weaving ultimately standing out from the competition.

The project itself has been steadily moving forward since Schreier was hired to direct last spring. Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-creator Joanna Calo have also been brought aboard to write the screenplay.

Weaving feels like a particularly interesting choice for Emma Frost.

The actress has already demonstrated her ability to play characters who can balance confidence and a sharp sense of humor. Her work in Ready or Not especially showcased her ability to command a genre film while portraying a character who can go from vulnerable to incredibly formidable.

That makes her casting as Emma especially exciting. Emma Frost is not simply a powerful telepath, she’s a character whose personality and intelligence are just as important as her abilities. Weaving’s range could allow Marvel to explore the different sides of Emma as the character develops within the MCU.

And with Emma Frost as part of the roster, the question now becomes: Who will Marvel cast neXt?
