Actress Kaya Boyd is doing more than just reading comics to prepare for her role as Storm in Marvel Studios’ upcoming untitled X-Men reboot. Boyd shared on her Instagram stories that she’s currently traveling in Kenya, Africa, which is the birthplace of Storm’s mother, N’Daré. Born in a remote village in the Great Rift Valley, N’Daré was a tribal princess who belonged to an ancient line of African priestesses. She later married American photojournalist David Munroe, and they moved to Harlem, New York, where Ororo was born, before eventually relocating to Cairo, Egypt.
It’s unclear how much of Storm’s background will be shown when she makes her MCU debut, but fans are hoping to see flashbacks of the young mutant’s time as a street thief working for the Shadow King before she was hailed as a goddess in a Kenyan village and eventually met Professor Charles Xavier.
It’s clear Boyd is serious about tackling the legendary mutant and doing her justice. Spending time around the people of Kenya will certainly help her develop her accent, which we can’t wait to hear!
The X-Men reboot is currently scheduled for May 5, 2028, although it’s certainly possible we could see Boyd’s Storm and other X-Men characters appear in Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
