XMF/the SUPER

X-Men, superheroes, genre movies, and more—bringing you the latest news, trailers, and updates from across fandom.

Adam Driver is a longtime X-Men fan, and his excitement about joining the iconic Marvel franchise is already coming through loud and clear.

The actor stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote his upcoming film Paper Tiger, but the conversation also turned to his recent casting in Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated X-Men reboot. During the interview, Driver opened up about growing up with the franchise, his childhood memories of the animated series, and what ultimately convinced him to join the Marvel production.

Driver revealed that his connection to the X-Men goes all the way back to his childhood. “I was a big X-Men fan when I was a kid,” he told Kimmel. He recalled watching the animated series while growing up, describing it as something that arrived at just the right time for his generation. “The TV show that was right in my generation,” he said. “[It’s] huge for me. Me and my cousin, Tony, he would [play as] Sabertooth and I would be Wolverine.”

That childhood connection clearly played a major role in making the opportunity to join the franchise especially meaningful. Driver explained that while he enjoyed other superhero properties, the timing of this particular project felt right.

“I was a big fan. I mean, I was a fan of the other things too, but this one felt like a right time [to join Marvel] and then it’s X-Men.”

So, what ultimately brought him on board? According to Driver, it was a combination of the X-Men franchise itself, director Jake Schreier’s vision for the film, and the involvement of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. “No, it was really X-Men and Jake Schreier, who’s the director, his idea for it, and that it’s Kevin Feige. You know, it all, it all kind of came together. The script is really cool,” he explained.

Perhaps the most telling part of the interview came when Driver admitted just how much the franchise means to him. He seems genuinely aware of the responsibility that comes with stepping into the X-Men universe. “I don’t want to mess it up. I’m a huge fan of X-Men.”

Marvel Studios’ untitled X-Men reboot is currently scheduled for release on May 5, 2028. Filming begins early in 2027.
