Celebrating The Continuing Legacy Of X-Men Films • Covering Our Most-Anticipated Genre Film And TV Projects

X-Men: First Class on Academy Awards shortlist.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that X-MEN: FIRST CLASS has made the top 10 shortlist of films in the running for the “Achievement in Visual Effects” nomination. Members of the Academy’s Visual Effects Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the films on Thursday, January 19. Following the screenings, the members will vote to nominate 5 films for final Oscar consideration.

Other films in the running include “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” “Hugo,” “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Pirates of the Caribeen: On Stranger Tides,” “Real Steel,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and “The Tree of Life.”

Nominees will be announced on January 24!
