THE WOLVERINE “starts shooting this August!!!” according to star Hugh Jackman, who’s recently confirmed the start date via his official Twitter.
Production on the James Mangold-directed movie will commence at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia with on-location filming planned for various locales in Japan.
Releasing July 26, 2013 THE WOLVERINE follows Logan as he treks Japan and falls in love with a woman whose hand is already promised to another. When he doesn’t back down, her powerful crimelord father summons the Silver Samurai and other deadly threats in the X-Men universe to push Logan’s healing-factor to the limit.
I really Really hope they get it right this time around, I hate to admit it but X-Men Origins: Wolverine was an epic fail! I give Hugh credit for bulking up for the role like he’d never had before, but overall the film was a mess, focusing more on unnessessary characters and totally losing track of what the film should have been about, they should have tackled it like Matthew Vaughn/Bryan Singer tackled the Charles and Eric relationship in First Class, only in this case with Logan and Victor.
They easily could have composed the weapon X team out of (only) Logan, Victor, Wade and Omega Red, leaving out Agent Zero, Blob, Beak and Wraith. Other characters the film could have done without were: Gambit, Emma Frost and Cyclops, even the Professor X cameo at the end. That would have left so much more screen time and character development for the earlier mentioned characters.
So far The Wolverine seems to be on the right track with only one major villain announced (Silver Samurai) Hugh reprising the role and a love intrest, I hope they don’t start adding X-Men characters that haven’t been done in a film just for the sake of having them in a movie, if done right, The Woverine has the potential to be the Batman Begins of the X-Men films, or Wolverine spin-off’s for that matter.
