In its second week of release, Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST landed in second place at the box office. The mutants took home a $32.55 million, dropping 64% from its previous weekend. That drop is a bit of an improvement when compared to 2006’s X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, but still somewhat unexpected due to positive word-of-mouth and raving reviews. The domestic total currently stands at $162 million.
In foreign markets, the film gained $95.6 million over the weekend, bringing its total to an impressive $338 million. With a release due in Spain next week, the film is expected to cross the $400 million mark pretty soon.
The big news? “Days of Future Past” is the first “X-Men” film to cross the coveted $500 million mark, worldwide!

It’s awesome to see how huge this is world wide, but also a bit surprising that domestically it’s not as big. Still, it’s an improvement on the past several installments here and will hopefully have a lengthy run. But yeah, it looks like overseas the sky is the limit. 🙂
I think it was a similar situation for THE WOLVERINE. Foreign markets really helped make that film a success, financially speaking. I think there’s such a big drop off in the second weekend, because studios tend to forget about marketing past the first week of release. Plus I think X-Men films skew towards more mature audiences, so it doesn’t get as much replay among younger kids.
Worldwide number is a great success (guessing will be at least 700 mil.), However ı expected Dofp to pass Last stand in domesticly. Now it seems will not happen, but still I have a little hope about that.
Well, the US domestic box office was down over Memorial day weekend (just look at the nose dive Godzilla suffered), and it seems to have had a minor adverse effect on X-Men’s takings.
Memorial day weekend is a notoriously mercurial release date, and it just happened to go slightly against Fox’s favour this year. But listen: There’s no way to paint this movie’s turnover as anything other than a huge success, and by the time it’s all said and done it will sit comfortably as the highest grossing entry in the franchise, and arguably the best.
