Plot

Completing the trilogy arc which began with FIRST CLASS, Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will take place over different time periods, ranging from the ancient past to the film’s main setting in 1983. The altering of time in DAYS OF FUTURE PAST has unleashed an unrelenting force, who’s determined to cause an apocalypse unlike any in human history. It will feature (a balding?) Professor Charles Xavier and Beast leading a new group of mutants, which include a young Jean Grey and Cyclops, among others. Charles’ friend/enemy relationship with Magneto will be explored, along with Mystique’s complicated relationship with Magneto and her former “first class” crush, Beast.

Casting

Casting began last month in Los Angeles and moved to London London in November. While many actors are auditioning for roles in the film, a few have been singled out recently: Chloe Moretz (If I Stay), Elle Fanning (Maleficent) and Hailee Steinfeld (Ender’s Game) have all been looked at for Jean Grey, while Timothee Chalamet (Interstellar), Ben Hardy (BBC’s East Enders) and Charlie Rowe (TV’s Red Band Society) have been looked at for Cyclops.

Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) and Idris Elba (Thor: The Dark World) were some of the first actors to be rumored for the villainous role of En Sabah Nur. In the end, “Star Wars VII” actor Oscar Isaac won the coveted role.

It’s uncertain if Channing Tatum will make his debut as Remy LeBeau in “Apocalypse” or wait until the character’s solo GAMBIT film.

Returning cast includes James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Evan Peters (Quicksilver) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine).

Last Spring, Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier) hinted at playing Xavier beyond ‘Days of Future Past,’ although he didn’t specifically mention ‘Apocalypse,’ saying: “There might be something else. A little bird has whispered that there might be something X-Men related.”

Please keep in mind that no official casting announcements have been made.

Production

Director Bryan Singer began work on the film’s treatment and screenplay with writer/producer Simon Kinberg and X2 writers Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty months before the release of “Days of Future Past.” Set construction on “Apocalypse” begins this December in Montreal, with filming commencing mid-April through the Summer for a May 27, 2016 theatrical release.
