Reasons behind director Rupert Wyatt’s exit from Channing Tatum’s GAMBIT.

When original GAMBIT director Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) left production, he cited scheduling conflicts within a released statement through Fox. The Hollywood Reporter says there’s much more to the story.

According to the site, the studio began to question whether Wyatt was committed to moving ahead on the project, which has an Oct. 7, 2016, release date. “Ambivalence is not a good way to go into an expensive movie,” said their high-level source.

Wyatt wants to rewrite, to conceive the world that he is filming. And when a director paints on a big, $100 million-plus like canvas, studios want to help pick out the colors. On big films there also are heavyweight producers and influential stars, like Tatum, who’s both, involved.

Fox is currently searching for directors and still hopes to release the film on schedule.
