Vaughn, Singer and McAvoy on X-Men: First Class sequels.

Total Film features a chat with director Matthew Vaughn, producer Bryan Singer, and actor James McAvoy about ideas for potential X-MEN: FIRST CLASS sequels.

Vaughn says the ending of First Class sets up potential sequels that will be even more fun. “You have the fun of introducing the characters and getting to know them, but that takes time. With the second [film] you can just get on with it and have a rollicking good time.”

With First Class taking place in 1962, Vaughn says a sequel can explore the late 60’s or the early 70’s, saying “1962 is far more grounded in the world of the ’50s. I think it takes about five years for a decade to really start getting its identity, so the fun thing about this for me would be doing [a sequel] in the latter part of the decade, where you’ve got The Stones, The Beatles, Flower Power…”

Singer agrees, saying “That’s an idea that’s been discussed. How the characters go through time. But only to a point – they can’t age too fast!”

McAvoy would like to see his character Charles Xavier “getting himself out of a mess” in future films, saying “In First Class he uses Cerebro for the first time and maybe it unlocks something in his head – maybe he can’t keep the voices out or something.”
