Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: APOCALYPSE brought in an estimated $22.3 million (domestic) during the weekend, a 66% drop from its opening 3-day weekend haul of $65 million. This was a bigger drop than expected, with competition coming from “Ninja Turtles” and other similarly-themed theatrical releases.
Analysts predict “Apocalypse” will end up making no more than $160-165 million in the states, which is below the film’s production budget of $178 million. To compare, the first “X-Men” in 2000 finished with $157 million, “Days of Future Past” with $233 million and “Deadpool” with $362 million.
Audiences overseas are bringing the heat though, with the film earning more than $84.4 million during the weekend. That number includes China’s impressive opening of $59 million, which is Fox’s second-largest opening in the country. International numbers now stand at $286 million, bringing the current worldwide total to more than $400.9 million.
Despite praise from fans and the general public with an A- Cinemascore, “Apocalypse” received one of the worst Rotten Tomatoes scores compared to any other film in the X-Men franchise (besides “X-Men Origin: Wolverine”) with 48%.
“It’s a challenging marketplace, to be sure, but the domestic opening coupled with the international rollout puts us in terrific shape,” said Fox domestic distribution chief, Chris Aronson to Variety last month.
In related news, DEADPOOL finally made its way to Japan, where it brought in an estimated $6.48 million, bringing its worldwide total up to $772.3 million. It’s the largest-ever opening for an X-Men movie there.

Has to be the single most unfairly treated superhero picture in recent memory.
SOooooooooooooo annoying!
Seen this film three times and the audience was into it and clapped at the end of each showing.
The harsh critic reviews matched with the competition was just too much, imo. This film could’ve flourished under different circumstances. 🙁
Disney’s fault. They timed the incredibly bad Sequel of Alice to start alongside X-Men to hurt ist box Office Returns and to cut if off from IMAX premium Screens (where the film should be shown).
Disney intends to bleed X-Men so they can get them back and integrate them into the MCU.
Thanks God international audiences don’t care.
like i said before and i,ll said again X-men films universe Rules 4 ever and ever because they are the very best in the life time and lifetime rules
Everybody i know loved the movie and it really feels like a negative campaign against a movie that people could love but decided not to. I think the biggest problem was the fact that it was the 4th superhero movie in a row. Apocalypse is a movie that needs to breit and that People should watch more then once to see all the details. Some critics complained about character motivations…. but its all in the movie. You just have to listen and pay attention.
K. So what we’re Psylocke’slicing motivations? What did she TELL US?🙇
