17 years ago today, 20th Century Fox released X-MEN. Directed by Bryan Singer, the film (along with New Line Cinema’s “Blade”) revitalized new interest in the comic book film genre after the damaging effects of “Batman and Robin.” Starring Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Anna Paquin, Rebecca Romijn, Tyler Mane, Ray Park and Bruce Davidson, the film had an opening weekend of $54.4 million (on a $75 million budget) and went on to accumulate $296.3 million worldwide, spawning many successful sequels and spin-offs.
XMF also shares an anniversary with “X-Men.” After watching the first “X-Men,” I decided to make a fan site dedicated to film and through various incarnations, XMF was born. My first site in 2000 was titled “X-Men Evolution” (I can’t find photographic evidence of this) and was followed by “X2-Movie” in 2003. The first version of “X-Men Films” began in 2004 at X-MenFilms.net, eventually leading to the creation of this site, X-MenFilms.com in 2014.
Different names, different looks, but all XMF at the end of the day.
Obviously, I really connected with these films and continue to do so. My passion for X-Men films has never faltered and I doubt it ever will. Now more than ever, I’m excited to see what’s coming for this franchise.
Fans on Twitter are celebrating X-Men’s 17th anniversary using our suggested tag of #XMen17, sharing their favorite moments and memories of the groundbreaking film. Those who post before midnight are also in for a special treat from us, an exclusive limited edition postcard commemorating the birthdays of X-Men and XMF!

I loved the original movies because they were different. They started the superhero franchise as underdogs, just like the team #xmen17
