X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX casting a 4-5 year old actress to play younger Jean Grey?

It appears the X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX will feature a scene involving a young Jean Grey. Earlier this month, Kenyon-Wells Casting put out a casting call notice, looking for a “small 4-5 year old girl” with “red hair” for filming in Montreal, the location of director Simon Kinberg’s mutant film.

The role was listed as being non-speaking and looking for a girl who has “self confidence (very comfortable in front of the camera – NOT shy), general awareness, ability to listen, concentrate and focus, follow instructions of the Director (and the Production team), and have the creativity and intelligence required to maintain involvement in the scenes.”

This is likely for a flashback, presumably showing when Jean’s powers first manifested?

There are multiple routes they can take for this moment: When Sophie Turner auditioned for the role in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, her dialogue involved her mentioning how she (at 10 years old) felt her mother’s pain when she died in a car crash. In the comics, Jean’s powers activated after her childhood friend Annie died from being hit by a car. Jean also has an older sister named Sara that was absorbed by a cybernetic species known as the Phalanx.

It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out on film.

“Dark Phoenix” comes to theaters on November 2, 2018.

Thanks @JenLawFilms for the heads up!
