Darwin is a mutant with the ability of reactive evolution, meaning he should be able to survive any situation he’s placed in. The film presented his “death” leaving many fans scratching their heads. But is he actually dead?
A natural-born leader and protector, Darwin was repeatedly shown trying to cover his fellow teammates from potential harm.
Darwin meets his fate when he devises a plan to keep Angel from leaving with Hellfire Club leader Sebastian Shaw. He instructs Havok to attack Shaw, not knowing that he can absorb energy and use it against any threats.
Darwin learned this the hard way after Shaw placed a ball of energy in his mouth. Darwin’s body tried to evolve enough to protect himself from harm, turning into solid metal and then to a rock-like substance to contain the energy.
Unfortunately it could not be contained, and he “died.”
But is Darwin actually dead or did he just convert into energy, waiting to reform his body? The character survived a similar fate in the comics, leading one to believe that his mutant ability has actually kept him alive.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see if potential sequels follow-up on his story.
It means, he still part of the sequel. That was a big relief.
I’d like it to happen, but really don’t think they’d worry about it now, giving the amount of screen time he had in First Class. His character simply wasn’t developed enough to allow a resurrection in the sequel to make any sort of impact. I think we’ve seen the last of him movie-wise…. but likewise, I hope I’m wrong as I really liked him 🙂
Please do not bring him back… Honestly, there are so many other mutants they can introduce, no need to revive all those who are dead.
i think darwin is Dead for sure
He’s dead. That’s it. This was a stupid poll.
Thanks for your opinion 🙂
Nah he should come back, I mean in every movie they kill off someone in the beggining and so it was Darwin.
Sheesh…Its the pheonix all over again 🙂
he probably is dead because he is the only black guy and ppl love killing the black guy.
Darwin is alive. The filmmakers knew about all of the characters and their abilities they introduced in this film. A large plot point in a story Darwin figured in involved him turning into pure energy as a reaction to a major threat to himself. I am certain this character will return in the sequels.
I’m inclined to think the people who say Darwin is dead are either ignorant of the character Darwin or are being brief in explaining their thought that the character was included by the movie-makers to simply be filler(“cool” powers presented for movie-magic by a disposable character -Yeah Marvel Studios, We see YOU) (which i think may be the case -but I hope not)
Truth is, as far as the poll goes he should totally be alive and I think the filmmakers DID leave his death ambiguous for the comic fans…but I’m willing to bet, if they re-approach this character that:1. They will recast him. bigger Hollywood name. Hate to say it for Edi Gathegi but they’d damn near have to to maximize continuing the character, unless the kid has acting chops that casters and writers are cleverly planning on using AND Marvel lets him pull a Taylor Lautner and do something to keep his role. But again. yeah Darwin tottally survived this by turning into some type of energy. comic = new story line where we see how powerful mutants can be / Movie = powerful/interesting characters used for filler or a red shirt. eh
Also read the link below. I realized Edi Gathegi could have been casted for later movies. He does possibly have the talent and looks like darwin in stature and head shape. They may not plan a recast (if character approached) and plan on putting him in his normal white/greyish look when he reconstitutes/evolves lol

I dont think darwin was dead just read about his abilities, he just turned into energy. Bt when are they going to put Apocalypse on there, since hes the greatest villian put him on the last x-men movie do you know how awesome that movie would be?
darwin has the best mutant powers
My only question is, if Darwin adapts to survive, then why was he a black man in the 60’s? During that time in America, it would have been much more prudent and safe for him to be white.
