After its third weekend at the box office, 20th Century Studios’ THE NEW MUTANTS remained at #2 on the USA charts, bringing in $2.1 million from 2,704 domestic theaters. That’s just a -32.5% drop from last weekend! Director Josh Boone’s young adult X-Men thriller earned $600k on Friday, $925k on Saturday, and $525k on Sunday. To date, the film has $15.3 million domestic and $14 million international, making its current worldwide total around $29.3 million.
To compare, Warner Bros. Tenet earned just $6.2 million this weekend, with Solstice Studios’ Unhinged making only $1.5 million. It’s obvious the general population isn’t quite ready to return to the cinemas en masse, so numbers for The New Mutants are doing “well” when compared to the competition. Still, these are major losses for film studios.
