Fans celebrated the third anniversary of DARK PHOENIX being released in theaters on June 7, 2019. Directed and written by longtime X-Men producer Simon Kinberg, the much-talked about film stars Sophie Turner in the lead as Jean Grey, a powerful mutant who’s inhabited by a cosmic force. When approached by alien leader Vuk (Jessica Chastain), the secrets of the Phoenix are revealed and a battle ensues, leading Jean to embrace her emotions, strength, and to protect her family.
The highly criticized film went on to make $252.4 million at the worldwide box office with a B- CinemaScore, though many agree it was given an unfair shot with Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox and a slew of release date delays which affected promotion and the overall representation of the film.
Co-starring James McAvoy as Professor Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Kota Eberhardt as Selene, Andrew Stehlin as Red Lotus, Summer Fontana as young Jean Grey, Scott Shepherd as John Grey, Eto Essandoh as Jones, Halston Sage as Dazzler, and Evan Peters as Quicksilver.
Our friends at Dark Phoenix: UN Cut created a video compilation showing what was ultimately cut from the film. Undergoing major reshoots which pitted the X-Men against aliens on a train, originally, Jean was supposed to face off against the aliens with Professor X and Cyclops at the United Nations, leading to her flying into space and blowing up space ships.
