DEADPOOL (parts uno y dos) writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are returning for director Shawn Levy’s DEADPOOL 3. Now comes the big question if the merc with a mouth will remain an R rated character. “Oh, absolutely,” said Reese. “Theyโre not gonna mess with the tone.” Backtracking a tad, he continued “I mean, Iโd never say never, I guess thereโs an outside chance, but weโve always been told it can be R-[rated], and weโre proceeding as if itโs R. We would like it to be R, we always have, so I donโt think thatโll change.”
The duo recently opened up to The Playlist about their experiences with their new overlords at Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company.
“These [Disney] people do things their way, and we were used to doing things our way, so there are differences, but I think the great part is that Marvelโs been incredibly supportive. They are gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool, you know? Itโs not like any particular joke may be the one that they say, โyou know, thatโs too far,โ that could happen, but to this point, itโs been nothing but support.โ
โWe want to make it great,โ Reese continued. “Weโre in the laboratory working on it with Ryan Reynolds all the time, and weโre very much entertaining ourselves. So, hopefully, that translates and ultimately will entertain the world. But you know, itโs a marriage between Fox and Disney and itโs two different universes and itโs not easy. But itโs also a wonderful challenge and, you know, high-class problems to be able to merge those, those worlds. So, weโre, weโre enjoying it.โ
Deadpool 3 is expected to film early next year for a 2024 release.
