Gambit is our new featured mutant!
Portrayed by actor Taylor Kitsch in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE (2009), Remy LeBeau was imprisoned on Three Mile Island by William Stryker (Danny Huston) for two years before breaking out. The guards named him “Gambit” because he kept winning and taking their money in poker games.
In his hometown of New Orleans, he meets Logan (Hugh Jackman) and initially perceives him as a threat. Using his mutant powers of explosive bio-kinetic energy, he charges his playing cards and bo staff to face off with Logan, and soon Victor Creed.
He protects Logan by using kinetic energy to crush large debris from a cooling tower that almost ended him, and checks to make sure the escaped mutants are safe. They are, as Cyclops (Tim Pocock), Emma (Tahyna MacManus), and the others are greeted by Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart). He returns to find Logan down and without his memories. Being the ever-gentleman, he asks Logan if he wants to escape the island with him. He declines, and Remy goes on his way to never be seen again.
Gambit is an adaption of the popular Marvel Comics character created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Jim Lee. Gambit made his first appearances in The Uncanny X-Men Annual #14 and The Uncanny X-Men #266 in 1990.
