Simon Kinberg Gives Marvel Studios “One Piece Of Advice” When It Comes To X-MEN

Speaking with /Film, longtime X-Men film writer and producer Simon Kinberg shared what advice he’d give Marvel Studios as they forge ahead on their journey with the mutant universe. Kinberg has worked on a number of films under 20th Century banner, including X-Men: The Last Stand (co-writer), First Class (producer), Days of Future Past (writer/producer), Apocalypse (writer/producer), Logan (producer), Deadpool & Deadpool 2 (producer), Legion (producer), The Gifted (producer), Dark Phoenix (writer/director/producer), and The New Mutants (producer).

“If I had one piece of advice, honestly, it is a very cliché thing, but it just is true: The strength of the ‘X-Men’ is the characters,” he said. “As much as there’s great storytelling and great plot and incredible action sequences and all of those things are going to be required of the movies, as they are in the comics, what sets, for me, the ‘X-Men’ apart is that they are the richest collection of characters in any comic book ever.”

Speaking about his excitement for the next iteration of X-Men, including the new actors the will get to portray these roles, Kinberg said “So it’s really about the characters that will get you the best actors. Those actors will bring those characters to life in a whole new way that honestly I cannot wait to see. I really am such a fan of what Marvel does and I’m obviously a massive, massive fan of the ‘X-Men.’ Like the ‘Star Wars’ movies. I read two comics when I was growing up religiously. I read others, but the religious ones were for me, ‘Batman’ and ‘X-Men.'”

Marvel Studios is giving the FoXverse some love before tackling the reboot. A number of cast members from both eras of X-Men will return for Deadpool 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars. What comes after that? It hasn’t been written yet, but writers will pitch their ideas to Kevin Feige and exec producers later this year.
