Hugh Jackman on the possibility of an R rated THE WOLVERINE.

Should THE WOLVERINE be rated R? That’s the discussion according to star Hugh Jackman, who recently sat down with MTV to talk about the upcoming film which begins production next year.

“There’s such great temptation to make an R rated Wolverine.” says Jackman. “I’ve always felt that and I know a lot of fans would like that and I totally get it. If there is ever a superhero that’s going to be R rated, it’s Wolverine. However in the last 10 years I’ve also met many 12, 13, 14, 15 year olds who for them Wolverine is not just cool you see it in their eyes, he’s everything to them.”

It’s pretty certain 20th Century Fox will move forward with a PG-13 film, but Jackman says that definitely doesn’t leave out the possibility of there being an R rated/ unrated cut.

“My thing to [director] James Mangold, we were like ‘lets not put it off the table.'” Jackman continues. “There’s even talk about us doing 2 versions as in finding a way to do both while you shoot it, which could be really cool. But you need to have a really good reason to exclude those [younger] fans.”

Thanks to Narrows for the heads up!
