X-Men Films And Superhero Entertainment News — Trailers, Industry Coverage, Reviews, Original Comics: SUPER (2025-), Mutant Fandom And More

As Marvel Studios continues to blend legacy characters from past franchises into the Multiverse Saga, one familiar face reportedly won’t be part of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, actress Famke Janssen revealed that she was never approached to reprise her iconic role as Jean Grey from the X-Men films of the 2000s.

“Every time I do an interview, it’s mentioned,” she said. “It’s interesting. I didn’t realize that was such a big part. Every interview I do, that will come up, and of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s gonna be printed.”

When asked directly if Marvel Studios ever contacted her about returning as Jean Grey following the Fox-era films, Janssen didn’t hesitate.

“Never. Never ever.”

Despite the ongoing curiosity around her potential return, Janssen seems at peace with fans’ continued fascination with the character.

“I should be flattered, I suppose, that this character has resonated with people,” she added. “It’s been so long, but it’s nice that people are still talking about her. I’m sure every single time there’s a new movie that they’re doing, like [is it] Doomsday? … it’ll come up again.”

Many of Janssen’s former X-Men co-stars are confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, including Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast).

While fans will be disappointed not to see Jean Grey join them, Janssen’s comments suggest she remains grateful for the role’s lasting impact, even if the Phoenix isn’t rising again anytime soon. In addition to Janssen, no announcements have been made re: the other X-Women: Halle Berry (Storm) and Anna Paquin (Rogue).

If not Doomsday, maybe there’s potential for an Avengers: Secret Wars appearance? 🙏
