Hugh Jackman reflects on Darren Aronofsky’s departure from “The Wolverine”

Hugh Jackman is featured in the latest issue of Total Film and spoke about the somewhat shakey lead up to getting THE WOLVERINE in front of cameras. Before James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) signed up to direct, Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) was planning on tackling the film, which features a praised screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie.

“It’s a wonderful idea, which is why Darren [Aronofsky] was interested in doing it.” said Jackman. He’d been looking for a movie for a long time and he said that this was the best script he’d read. It didn’t work out in the end for many, complicated reasons but it was kind of a reassurance to me that I knew we were on the right path.”

Since the release of the critically-panned X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, Jackman is hoping that fans get the true “Wolverine” movie they deserve.

“For various reasons with the first movie I don’t think we got to the bottom of the character and I think that’s why, in this one, we’re calling it ‘The’ Wolverine. It should feel like a standalone movie.”
