Channing Tatum tells MTV News that while he and longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner are on board with the idea of him playing GAMBIT, there’s nothing official just yet. “Creatively, we’re starting to chug forward. Obviously there’s nothing [official]. There are only conversations and dreams right now, really,” he says when asked about joining the blockbuster mutant franchise. “I’ve been pretty vocal about wanting to be the part of Gambit for a very long time. It’s a weird, pinching-myself moment that we’re even having the conversation.”
Director Bryan Singer previously said that he was considering adding the character (along with a younger Nightcrawler) for 2016’s X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, but it appears that Tatum has something else in mind, saying “We’ve talked about it being a standalone [film], first, and actually trying to change the ‘hero, superhero movie.’ Because Gambit is not your typical hero. He’s a thief. He walks on the gray. I’m hoping we can change it a little bit, and then ultimately feather into the other ones.”
Do you think Tatum can pull off playing Remy Le’Beau?
