Director Bryan Singer appeared at the San Pedro International Film Festival yesterday to discuss his upcoming projects, including the highly anticipated X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. He revealed (video from The Movie Report) that he’s still in the editing stage and is expecting it to run longer than any previous X-Men film.

“The cut’s a little long right now, but I think it’s gonna be a longer X-Men movie. The X-Men movies I usually keep under two hours, this one I may actually let it be a longer movie. It’s sort of a wrap-up of six movies. Kind of a wrap-up of X-Men 1, 2, 3, First Class, Days of Future Past…this is sort of [the conclusion]. There’s even an homage at the end, a scene. It’s gonna get spoiled because they decided to use it in the trailer, which comes out in like six months, but it’s a really cool trailer. It’s kind of a wrap-up of six movies, so it might run a little bit long, but it’s not boring. [There’s] new characters, young characters and rekindled romances between Xavier and Moira MacTaggert, played by Rose Byrne who is amazing.”

Fans can expect powerful and dramatic acting performances from the film’s cast. Singer shared one memorable moment he had on set with ‘Magneto’ actor, Michael Fassbender.

“Michael Fassbender did something so wonderful in this movie,” he gushed. “Fassbender does something in this movie where [during filming] we’re at the end of the scene and he asked me not to call cut. When the scene was over he continued and did something that made me cry. I had never done that before. My company grabbed a Kleenex. Simon Kinberg, the writer, who has no emotions at all, actually became emotional. It was so beautiful. I had never seen an actor do this and he took the scene to a whole other level.

“It’s a heartbreaking scene. Not a typical comic book movie scene at all, so lets hope it makes the cut, but after he did it, I went through the woods, I went up to him and hugged him and said thanks Michael for that gift…now I need you to do it again! And he did it and he fucking rocked it again with full emotion. This guy’s amazing. He can go from [an] emotionally devastating moment to break-dancing to ‘Blurred Lines’ between takes.

“He, [James] McAvoy and my villain Oscar Isaac are among the three greatest living actors in cinema, in their age category, by far. They will not be lauded or awarded because they’re in an ‘X-Men’ movie and comic book movies just don’t get that kind of shit, but they deliver some extraordinary performances, particularly in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ because the movie is very emotional.”
