In its fifth weekend of release at the box office, DEADPOOL held strong at the number three spot, earning $10.8 million from over 3,331 domestic theaters. It was topped by “Zootopia” ($50 mil) and newcomer “10 Cloverfield Lane” ($25.2 mil), dropping just 35.4% from last weekend’s take of $16.7 million. It’s current haul in the USA now stands at $328 million.
It’s the top-grossing R-rated film of 2016 (so far) and ranks as the third highest-grossing R-rated film (domestically) behind “The Passion of the Christ” ($370.8 mil) and “American Sniper” ($350.1 mil). “It’s been a phenomenal run,” said Fox distribution chief Chris Aronson. “Every week it has exceeded our modeling.”
With $380 million coming from foreign markets, the film has garnered an astounding $708.1 million worldwide on a budget of just $58 million.
The Tim Miller-directed film starring Ryan Reynolds is the highest-grossing X-Men film ever (domestically), surpassing “X-Men: The Last Stand” ($234.2 mil) and “X-Men: Days of Future Past” ($233.9 mil). Worldwide, it’s currently the second biggest X-Men film, behind “X-Men: Days of Future Past” ($747.9 million).
Deadpool is the highest grossing film at 20th Century Fox not directed by “Avatar” and “Titanic” filmmaker James Cameron or “Star Wars” creator George Lucas.
