The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly features the X-MEN: APOCALYPSE cast on four connecting collectible covers. Shown are Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Ben Hardy as Angel, Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, James McAvoy as Professor X, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops.
On bringing in younger versions of characters previously portrayed in the original X-Men trilogy, producer Simon Kinberg says “We needed those kids to be as compelling on screen as Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy and Oscar Isaac, and that’s a tall order. We did feel a lot of pressure to find a young cast that can live up to that caliber of acting.”
This marks the third and possibly final entry for stars McAvoy, Lawrence and Fassbender (contractually), though they’re definitely considering returning to their roles in the future. “Even if this is the last one for me or for other people, you just are sort of grateful for the experience,” McAvoy says. “I know I can speak for a lot of the other guys as well that it’s been a really positive experience for us professionally and socially and personally.”
“I would love to come back,” says Lawrence. “You realize how important your year is, like how important three months out of your year is,” she says. “I don’t know.” Pause. “I shouldn’t be that honest.”
