While attending the TV Critics’ Association press tour, Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb told IGN that he’s excited about Fox’s upcoming X-MEN universe series (currently untitled) being handled by ‘Burn Notice’ creator Matt Nix.

“As an X-Men fan, and ultimately, what Matt — the showrunner and creator — brings to it is that the X-Men are always stories about family. That’s where they start, that’s where they live. It’s about understanding how we deal with each other. It’s about parents that don’t understand what’s wrong with their kids, it’s about kids that don’t understand their parents. And he understood that. He got it.”

Loeb teased that there’s more to the series than meets the eye. “We haven’t really been able to tell everybody what the whole story is. They’ll be able to see it, and when they do, it’ll be really clear why those characters were chosen, where they are going, and what’s going to happen.”

As a refresher, this is not the HELLFIRE show which was originally planned for Fox. Series development for the 60’s-set show went in the red after showrunners Evan Katz and Manny Coto left to tackle Fox’s ’24: Legacy’ series.

Nix’s show will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

“There will be some iconic characters but mostly this is about a new family,” said FOX Television Group Chairman and CEO Dana Walden to /Film. “It’s about an average family who encounters this extraordinary world and children who have mutant powers and they end up on the run, so it’s a little bit underground railroad in terms of a storytelling spine,” .

A pilot is expected to be ready for fall/mid-season 2017-18.
