James McAvoy is interested in continuing his role as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film franchise, as long as writers give him a reason to return. While doing promo for his upcoming movie Split, the actor told Fandango’s Erik Davis “if they offer me a really good part, I’ll be in it. If it’s not a really good part, then I’m like, eh…I’ll think about it.”
McAvoy has played Xavier in three films so far and rumors continue to grow about his involvement with director Josh Boone’s upcoming THE NEW MUTANTS. While he didn’t confirm or deny that bit of info, he said that he loves playing the character and has “always had pretty interesting things to do as Charles, so if that continues, then yeah, of course I’d love to be a part of it.”
With Xavier’s older self (Patrick Stewart) appearing in March’s LOGAN with Hugh Jackman, McAvoy said he’s “jealous” that he’s “not old enough to play Charles like that yet,” but calls the idea “brilliant.”
