Director Josh Boone’s THE NEW MUTANTS landed at the #3 spot in its sixth weekend at the USA box office. Dropping just -11% from last weekend, the young adult X-Men thriller earned $1,042,158 from 2,154 domestic theaters (averaging $483 per screen). It made $282k on Friday, $495k on Saturday, and $266k on Sunday. Warner Bros’ Tenet remained at #1 with $2.7 million, with Disney’s Hocus Pocus re-release at #2 with $1.9 million. To date, the film has earned $30 million in domestic and $21 million in foreign markets, bringing its current worldwide total to $41.2 million.
This week, we’ve learned that Cineworld is temporarily suspending operations of their theaters (once again) due to the lack of business and content available, as movie studios push back their major films to later dates due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This move will affect 127 Cineworld and Picturehouse chains in the UK and 536 Regal Cinemas in the USA.
The New Mutants is currently rumored for a November home video release, although this move could push things forwards as its box office numbers dwindle. A Halloween Digital HD release sure would be nice, wouldn’t it?!
