the SUPER🦸: Gal Gadot teases WONDER WOMAN future in James Gunn’s DCU

Update: Variety exclusively reports that sources with knowledge of the situation tell Variety that is not the case. According to the sources, a third “Wonder Woman” film is not in development at DC Studios nor do Gunn and Safran have plans at this time for any “Wonder Woman” project in the new DC Universe other than their previously announced “Paradise Lost” prequel series for Max.

the SUPER🦸 — It appears Gal Gadot isn’t done portraying Wonder Woman after negative reaction to director Patty Jenkins’ WW84 (2020). When James Gunn and Peter Safran came onboard as co-chairs for DC Films, and announced a new DCU slate, many assumed the character would be recast. Gunn is making Superman: Legacy with a rebooted cast, and director Andy Muschietti is attached to Batman: Brave and the Bold, which isn’t expected to star Ben Affleck. Still, Viola Davis is expected to remain as Amanda Waller, and Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman could stick around — if he’s not recast as Lobo.

Speaking with Chris Killian for ComicBook.com, Gadot revealed what she knows: “I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”

Word on the street is Jenkins has been dropped as director, and her existing screenplay won’t be used. She might still retain executive producer status. Some fans think Zack Snyder will be involved with development, but we’ll have to wait and see on that! He’s currently working on expanding his Rebel Moon property on Netflix.

The DC Universe is obviously going to be a different place after the events of The Flash, which saw Barry Allen change reality. Rather that doing a full reboot, it seems we’ll get a mishmash of 2-3 existing properties with a plethora of new ones.

Speaking on the new actors that will join DC, such as David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Gadot said “I saw that they were testing, doing different screen tests, but I don’t know who got it, but it seemed like everyone was super legit and talented and, like, great. So I’m happy for them. It’s such a huge take-on and it’s such an exciting beginning to any actor, and I wish whoever it’s going to be the best of luck and enjoy the ride.”
