With tickets for Mortal Kombat II officially on sale ahead of the film’s May 5 theatrical debut, the marketing campaign is kicking into high gear with the release of a striking new poster.

The poster zeroes in on an unexpected rivalry between Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) and Kung Lao (Max Huang). In the first film, the two were more than allies, they were brothers-in-arms, bound by loyalty and a shared mission. That bond makes the imagery here all the more compelling. Instead of unity, we’re given tension.
What stands out most is Kung Lao’s transformation. Despite his apparent death in the first installment, he returns with a noticeably darker edge. Gone is the calm, disciplined warrior fans remember. In his place is someone sharper, more intense, and clearly carrying unresolved anger.
Liu Kang, by contrast, appears resolute but conflicted, as if caught between the duty to fight and the pain of facing someone he once called family. The visual storytelling here does a lot of heavy lifting, teasing a narrative that may be just as emotionally driven as it is action-packed.
If this poster is any indication, Mortal Kombat II isn’t just raising the stakes in terms of spectacle, it’s digging deeper into character relationships and consequences. And with tickets now available, it won’t be long before audiences find out just how far this heated rivalry goes.
