X-MEN: APOCALYPSE opens to $8.2 mil Thursday night, topping DOFP’s $8.1 mil.

With a budget of $178 million, Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: APOCALYPSE brought in around $8.2 million from “early screenings” Thursday evening from 3,595 of the 4,150 domestic theaters it will open in during Memorial Day weekend.

That’s more than the $8.1 million DAYS OF FUTURE PAST pulled in back in 2014. It made $35.5 million on Friday, so will be interesting to compare those numbers. The film opened to $90.8 million ($110.5 million over the holiday weekend).

X-Men’s competition, “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” made around $1.5 million on Thursday from 2,800 to 3,000 theaters, to compare. Surely both films having the same release impacted their box office intake to a degree.

20th Century Fox reported they’re expecting at least $80 million for the holiday weekend, though box office analysts predict a higher amount closer to $90 million.

Internationally, “Apocalypse” has earned around $130 million from over 77 markets. This weekend the film opened in South Korea, where it made $1.7 million from 1,226 theaters on Thursday.
