Actress Alexandra Shipp recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about what attracted her to the role of Storm and why she thinks the character is deserving of a solo film.
On choosing the role, Shipp said “I try to make sure every role I take speaks to something. Whether being treated unfairly as a mutant; speaking on race; or with Love, Simon, speaking to the LGBTQ community.”
While she hasn’t heard about a STORM spin-off, Shipp said she’d like tackle it head-on. “It is definitely time for these Storm fans to get the movie they have been dying for. There are so many different storylines that we could take on when it comes to Storm — whether she is losing her powers or going back to Africa. I just want there to be a message of ‘this woman doesn’t need a man.’ Just one movie where a woman doesn’t need a man, really.”
We’ll have to wait and see what happens considering the Walt Disney Company is fighting to gain 20th Century Fox assets which include the X-Men in a mega-acquisition bidding war against Comcast. Disney CEO Bob Iger has previously expressed interest in bringing the mutant property to the MCU, so chances of a reboot and recast are a strong possibility in the near future.

Shipp gave fans a behind the scenes look at the hair Ororo Munro sports in the blink and you’ll miss it DEADPOOL 2 cameo. She will sport a shorter and fuller hairstyle, which curiously adds black roots and a decade of hair growth to the bald mohawk she sported in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Storm deserves a movie! Make this please Disney!
