Nothing will stop THE NEW MUTANTS! Safety guide for best practices to use when entering the cinema.

This is not a drill! 20th Century Studios’ THE NEW MUTANTS will arrive in theaters August 28, with fans and the general public having to debate if they’ll enter the cinema during the global Covid-19 pandemic. We want you to be safe, so here’s a guideline of what you can do to ensure you’re experience watching director Josh Boone’s X-Men horror thriller is a good one!

Have Covid-19 Symptoms?

Various theater chains will check the temperatures of each patron before allowing them inside. If you’re feeling a bit feverish or are exhibiting any symptoms of Covid-19 (fever, coughing, shortness of breath), then STAY HOME AND QUARANTINE! You are doing a disservice to your fellow man by spreading the virus. The movie can wait. If you already reserved your tickets, you surely can get a refund for not attending.

Early Showings

If possible, consider going to the very first showtime of the day! The later the showtime, the greater the risk, as the auditorium will become exposed to more and more people as the day goes on.

Wear a Mask. Maybe two?

Wearing a mask during the Covid-19 pandemic is a surefire way to lower the risk of expelling viral droplets and particles from your mouth and nose. It’s the first line of defense for protecting others from yourself. If everyone wears a mask, it’ll slow the spread. Cinemas globally will enact this guideline, so it’s a given. Make sure to wear a face covering with a minimum of 2 or 3 fabric layers; the more layers, the better protection. KN95 masks are at the top, but medical and cloth coverings work well too. Just remember you’re going to be in the theater for about two hours (trailers and feature film); the longer the exposure, the greatest risk. It’s not a silly idea to consider wearing two masks!

Hand Sanitzer and Wet Wipes

Hand-washing is the best defense, but since you’re in a theater, you’ll likely not want to go to the restroom to do this deed. Wash you hands before coming to the cinema, and bring an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and/or disinfectant wipes. Theater employees are supposed to keep things clean, but they are human and mistakes can be made. Wipe down your arm rests and cup holders with the wipes and use the sanitizer on your hands, rubbing it between your fingers, fingertips, and on the tops of your hands.

Seating

What’s the better seating? Towards the front of the theater or the back? That’s up for you to decide, but consider, if you’re sitting in the back row of the auditorium, you won’t have to worry about people behind you coughing or sneezing in your direction. Also, this goes without saying, but SOCIAL DISTANCE from others. You probably shouldn’t be sitting next to anyone who isn’t in your household. If you’re going with a friend, having a seat or two between you isn’t the worst idea; many theater chains will already have this rule in effect.

Food + Drink

Make plans to eat before or after the movie. It’s true that food is a major source of income for movie theaters, but eating and drinking requires you to lower your mask and potentially expose yourself.

End of Movie

You’ve now seen The New Mutants and can’t believe how frickin’ awesome and terrifying it was. When you exit the movie theater, make sure to sanitize your hands again and give them a fresh wash with soap and hot water in a safe space (i.e. your home).

Repeat Viewings?

That’s up to you! There’s no official date for when film arrives on subscription streaming or Video on Demand. It’s possible Disney will make the announcement shortly after its theatrical release. We’ll have to wait and see on that.
