Hugh Jackman’s run as Wolverine has long been one of the most iconic and long-lasting performances in superhero cinema, earning him the Guinness World Record for the longest tenure as a live-action Marvel superhero. As of 2024, Jackman held that distinction for an impressive 24 years, a milestone that seemed fitting for an actor so closely identified with a single Marvel role. However, the record didn’t remain his for long.
Wesley Snipes quietly reclaimed the title when he returned as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. Snipes made his first appearance as Blade in 1998. That cameo extended Snipes’ Marvel legacy to 26 years, edging him past Jackman in the record books. The moment was a fun bit of trivia for fans, especially given the shared screen time between the two actors, both of whom helped shape Marvel’s pre-MCU era in very different ways.
When BuzzFeed UK recently brought up the record loss during a conversation with Jackman, the actor responded with his trademark humor. Clearly taking the news in stride, Jackman joked about the friendly rivalry, saying, “If I had known, I would have banned him. I would’ve written him out… I’m literally de-friending him now.” The playful remark highlights the good-natured spirit behind the moment and serves as a reminder that, records aside, both actors remain beloved pillars of Marvel’s cinematic history.
