In a world where movie posters are (sometimes) shoddily manipulated using computer graphics, THE NEW MUTANTS comic book artist Bill Sienkiewicz has come out to say that he’d be thrilled to illustrate official one-sheets for director Josh Boone’s upcoming film.
Responding to a comment made on his Facebook page (via CBR) about the current state of film posters, Sienkiewicz said it “sparked” him “to put in an official request” to design a ‘New Mutants’ poster by hand.
“Please don’t misunderstand. I’m talking with terrific people at the studio – nothing is set – everything is on the table, etc.,” he said. “But THIS has tipped the scales for me, personally. I’ve officially just made it my mission.”
THIS referring to a recently released ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ poster which is overcrowded and oddly put together.
Director Josh Boone previously mentioned to Entertainment Weekly that Sienkiewicz’s iconic run on the Marvel’s comic book series, which took a “darker and more surreal and impressionistic” turn, inspired him to make the upcoming film a straight up horror flick. “It felt like Stephen King meets John Hughes, he said.
“New Mutants” begins production this July for a April 13, 2018 theatrical release.
