Deadline reveals that longtime X-MEN producer Simon Kinberg is devloping a MULTIPLE MAN film project for actor James Franco. Writer Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman) is penning the script.
Kinberg’s Genre Films and Franco’s Ramona Films are producing. No word on a director yet, but Kinberg is currently helming his first film with next year’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
The character was previously portrayed by Eric Dane in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand.
Multiple Man is well known among comic book fans, but not so much the general audience. In the comics, the character (real name: Jamie Madrox) used his mutant abilities straight out of the womb when he multiplied after being slapped by a doctor. Growing up, his powers to multiply himself grew out of control until Professor Xavier made a special suit to control his abilities.
The character has affiliated himself and clashed with the X-Men before. One of his more popular comic book runs was with X-Factor, where he led a mutant investigation agency.
There are many possibilities for Multiple Man, so it’ll be interesting to see how they utilize him in this ever-evolving film franchise.
