NEW MUTANTS (official title TBA) begins production next month in Boston and with that comes a flurry of casting calls for principal actors, background talent and extras.
Cristopher Marc over at Omega Underground has uncovered a few of these notices. They reveal potential minor details about the film and its characters.
A casting call from CP Casting & Acting Studio reads:
SKINNY MAN – Male, 20’s – 60’s; Caucasian, must be over 6’9″, extremely tall and skinny. We are looking for someone who is very good with movement. This is a featured principal role with no dialogue.
This suggests it may be for the techno-organic alien Warlock, a character who will likely require the use of motion capture and CGI.
It also appears (via Project Casting) that we’ll see a flashback of young Magik, and also an Asian character, possibly original ‘New Mutants’ team member Karma?
YOUNG ANNA – Female, 9 – 12; preferably blonde, or willing to temporary color; Russian accent or Russian language skills.
YOUNG FEMALE – 18 to 22 years old; Asian
Finally, additional notices uncovered by the site include casting for a “burly high schooler of any ethnicity,” “Native American background actors” and “tall, between 6’9-7’4 extras of any ethnicity.”
The announced cast includes Blu Hunt as Dani Moonstar, Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Maisie Williamsas Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Sunspot and Rosario Dawson as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
Described as a horror film in the X-Men franchise, the plot involves five young mutants who are being held in a secret facility against their will, having to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world, they’re just trying to save themselves.
“New Mutants” comes to theaters on April 13, 2018.
