‘The Fault in Our Stars’ writers to scribe ‘X-Men’ spin-off NEW MUTANTS.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, development on director Josh Boone’s NEW MUTANTS continues to push forward as 20th Century has added his “The Fault in Our Stars” scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber to the creative crew.

The spin-off film in the ever-expanding X-MEN franchise will “focus on the angst-driven adventures of a diverse group of teens that include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots girl Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian code-named Cannonball, and Russian teen Magik. Also in the mix will be an alien named Warlock.”

Actress Anya Taylor-Joy has been rumored for the role of Magik since March. Though she doesn’t confirm, she recently told IGN: “I think the world is really fascinating. I’d love to be a part of it. It would be wonderful.” Further noting that “I guess when they make decisions the world will know.”

The original ‘New Mutants’ comic series by Marvel was created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Bob McLeod, running from 1983 to 1991.

Longtime ‘X-Men’ mainstay, Simon Kinberg, will produce.

A release date has not been set, though it’s “rumored” for 2018.
