Director and writer Simon Kinberg announced via Instagram that Jessica Chastain began filming her scenes for X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX today in Montreal. “Just wrapped first day w/ Jessica Chastain. A sign from space,” he wrote with a photo he took of the sky and a tease of production equipment.
Though her role was never officially announced, Chastain is extremely likely to be playing Lilandra, Empress of the alien Shi’ar empire. Kinberg’s mention of space further confirms this is indeed who she will be portraying.
Editor’s Note: Chastain confirmed that she is NOT playing Lilandra. Click here to read more on that.
While this will be the first X-Men film to go intergalactic, Kinberg has previously said that it won’t be “too intergalactic,” opting instead to have it more grounded than the popular comic book storyline.
“Dark Phoenix” flies into theaters on November 2, 2018.
